Saturday Job with the possibility of a future apprenticeship
A Saturday Grooming Assistant position allows individuals 16 years of age and over to work under the supervision of an experienced groomer or mentor and learn the basic skills required to succeed in the preparation of dogs for grooming. You would be required to carry out tasks to assist the groomer, including maintaining a safe, clean and tidy working area. It not only helps you in earning money but also gains the necessary knowledge to succeed in this particular field. However, you need to possess some important and necessary qualities if you want to join as Saturday staff with the possibility of a future offer for an apprenticeship.
A dog grooming assistant is a person who works in the pet care industry. He or she works with a dog groomer to assist that person in routine aspects of bathing, conditioning and preparation of a dogs coat for styling. The grooming assistant also works with the groomer to help maintain a safe and clean working environment.
- Your key area of responsibility is for the safety and well-being of dogs in our care at all times.
- You will be responsible for maintaining a sanitary and safe working environment by cleaning up hair, water and occasional waste from dogs when required and under your own initiative.
- Cleaning all areas of the business environment is required to be completed to the highest standard and will involve the use of disinfectants approved for use with animals.
- You will be required to move dogs between locations while adhering to health and safety legislation and risk assessment protocols.
- You will be required to properly and safely handle a variety of dogs and prepare dogs for grooming by bathing, drying and coat preparation for grooming and styling by a qualified groomer.
- You will be required to use specialist equipment while maintaining an awareness of health, safety and risk assessment.
The successful candidate should be enthusiastic and willing to learn new skills. You should have a positive attitude towards work and ready to take up challenges and you should be responsible for your actions.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism while giving your interview and demonstrate an awareness of personal standards and have a desire to work hard. Arriving on time and treating all coworkers with respect are some of the positive traits, you should have. You should be prepared for all types of questions. For example, we may ask about general health and safety standards and why they are important. The successful applicant should be able to provide clear answers to such questions.
Interpersonal skills and teamwork
You should be able to develop good working relationships with your peers and possess good interpersonal skills. Successful applicants should be able to work as a team and manage tasks accordingly. These qualities will be assessed at your interview.
The successful applicant should possess and demonstrate good communication skills. This skill is important to us because it will not only help to resolve any kind of problems but also maintain good relationships with our clients as well as colleagues.
Basic Maths, English and computer skills will be useful. However, formal qualifications are not required for this position. We will focus on your personal qualities and enthusiasm. Listening and learning as well as an ability to follow instruction and take feedback well are required in order to work safely with animals.
