NAIL CUTTING

FREE to Registered Customers

If you are already a registered FCL customer, we want to ensure that your pet’s nails are always in good shape and comfortable. In case their nails require cutting, all you need to do is give us a call and ask us to clip them completely free of charge. For those not registered with us, we are happy to trim your dogs’ nails for a fee of £8.00. We will also add our Re-Silk protective and nourishing serum to their coat for good measure.

On rare occasions, trimming a dog’s nails during the grooming session may not be possible.

This could be due to fear-driven behaviour, where the dog strongly objects to nail clipping and becomes extremely anxious. If such a situation arises, we would stop the procedure and recommend consulting a veterinarian. It’s important to note that the price of dog grooming includes nail trimming, and unfortunately, we cannot offer discounts if it’s impossible to trim your dog’s nails.

We understand the importance of safely trimming or cutting your dog’s nails and take all reasonable measures to ensure their safety. However, it’s important to note that there may be occasional bleeding following the process. It’s worth mentioning that walking your dog on hard surfaces can help wear down the nails naturally and stimulate the nerve inside the nail, shortening the blood vessels and allowing us to trim the nail shorter without causing any bleeding. But when your dog walks on soft ground, the nails and the blood supply grow closer to the end of the nail, which increases the risk of bleeding during trimming.

Nail trimming can be challenging and stressful for some dogs who strongly resist and may result in accidental damage. In case of bleeding, we may use blood-stopping preparations like potassium permanganate, but it’s important to note that these can cause staining, especially when wet.

After your dog’s grooming session, we recommend transporting them on a blanket, a suitable and secure car harness, or a cage. Remember that freshly cut nails may still be sharp and may cause damage to the skin, soft furnishings, clothes, or car seats until they are worn down by walking on hard ground. However, please remember that The Groomer and Furst Class Lounge Limited will not be held liable for any harm caused by blood or blood clotting agents used to treat bleeding resulting from nail trimming. This includes damage caused to a person’s personal effects, such as clothing, carpets, soft furnishings, or car seats.

Potassium permanganate is a widely used antiseptic recognised by its bright purple crystals. It is commonly used by veterinarians and groomers to quickly stop bleeding when a pet’s nails are accidentally cut too short, and it is highly effective in doing so. Potassium permanganate powder or crystals are also used as a general antiseptic or disinfectant to treat various skin issues and minor wounds. When nails or skin tissue are damaged, antiseptics disinfect the area and reduce the chance of infection. However, it is essential to note that even diluted solutions of this antiseptic can cause staining on the skin or fur.
